Things we will, and especially won’t be doing

Friday the 13th is upon us, and for some, that means avoiding black cats and ladders and walking under any form of an open umbrella.

But for travel nurses, it’s just another day on the job. With our sense of adventure (and perhaps a little bit of luck), we’re not afraid to take on whatever challenges come our way. So whether you’re embarking on your first travel nursing assignment or are a seasoned pro, here’s to a successful (and uneventful!) Friday the 13th.

Here are four things nurses will and won’t do today in honor of the unlucky day.

Avoid New Assignments

Ok, the truth is that sometimes you have to float, but gosh, I sure hope it’s not today.

The reason being is that today is the day when you may end up with a horror story of an assignment or, even worse, no assignment at all. So if you can, try to avoid getting floated to a new floor or unit on Friday the 13th. It could be a disaster in the making.

I get it, travel nursing is all about taking on new challenges and seeing what the world has to offer. But please, for Pete’s sake, not today!

Don’t Flaunt Your Luck

No matter how lucky you might feel, it’s best not to flaunt it.

Travel nurses know that every assignment comes with its own set of obstacles, so it’s best to stay humble and enjoy the ride. Especially today. Friday the 13th is def a day you don’t wanna show off how good your IV skills are. And you surely won’t want to be caught singing “I’m so lucky, so very lucky” in the middle of the ER.

Stay low, stay cool, and make it through the shift, baby!

Nurses won’t be traveling today

I get it, you’re a nomad, and that’s why you travel.

But today is not a day to hit the open road. This just isn’t a safe time for travel nurses, so if you can help it, stay put. Regardless of how excited you are about your next assignment, today could be a disaster waiting to happen. So save the road trips for another Friday and instead enjoy the local attractions in your current city.

Because at the end of the day (literally), you don’t want to jinx your good fortune.

And finally, nurses won’t be doing anything out of the ordinary today because they know it’s best to play it safe on a day like Friday the 13th!

That means don’t get too creative with your shift.

Stick to the plan, and you should make it out of this day unscathed. After all, there’s no use tempting fate on a day like this.

So there you have it, four things travel nurses won’t be doing (or might be doing) today in honor of Friday the 13th.

With any luck, you’ll (safely) make it through the day and onto the next contract!
